What's more important: a good logo or a good brand?

A brand is not a logo.

A logo is not a brand.

It's totally possible to have a top tier award-winning logo and a brand that's shit.

For example, Enron. Enron was a shitty company that notoriously melted down but had a logo that was designed by one of the world's all-time greatest logo designers, Paul Rand.

It's just as possible to have a brand people love and a logo that's hot garbage.

For example... uh, well I can't think of anything quickly off the top of my head. But that also supports the point I want to make.

A good brand can carry a bad logo, but a good logo cannot carry a bad brand.

You're company is in 1 of these 4 categories:

  1. Bad logo + bad brand = Oof, things don't look good for you.

  2. Good logo + bad brand = Things don't look good for you with a cherry on top.

  3. Bad logo + good brand = Okay, nice. But you should be embarrassed.

  4. Good logo + good brand = Why are you even reading this?

Which one are you?
